Hannah Hoch

Hoch's work is based on dadaism.
Plan for shoot
I'm going to take pictures of people then mix them together.
Image Bank

I aim to get images that are equally odd as these.

Best images
This image is good as the subject doesn't look like he is aware that he's in a picture. He also looks confused like all the people looking at Hannah Hoch's work at first glans.
The image of the subject waving is odd so I thought it would be perfect for dadaism.
I think this image will work as the subject is swearing and happy that she is doing so. I may use her hands in a final image.
This image is a average portrait. I have decided to use this image as it will make the other images look even weirder in comparison.
Images that require improvement
This image is far too blurry I believe this is because I moved the camera.
This image is blurry and that day it was so bright that the light came through even with the blinds being closed that is why for the over images I continued to use the black background.
If this image wasn't blurry then I would have used it as it's fun and random. The movement of his arms makes him seem so happy that he doesn't know what to do with his arms but his facial expressions shows him looking lost. It makes the viewer wonder if the subject is alright.
The camera was moved when this was taken making the person look a bit heavenly. It isn't that bad in general just not what's needed for this shoot. The images should be quite plain and make something better put together.
AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
I realised after completing the shoot and looking at the images on my laptop that I should of zoomed in on they faces for some images as I want to use random facial features as thats what Hoch does. I don't think this shoot has go very well. When I was inspired by Hannah Hoch's work before when doing composite images I didn't pay much attention to her work and I just did what I wanted, which was putting objects random objects around my house. An example of what I did was making stationary look big and putting it in the middle of the town. So in a way this is the first time I have been inspired by Hoch's work and for a first try I think this is a good attempt. I was just going to use the best images like always only I thought that Hoch wouldn't see best or worst images so I used both.
AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
For this shoot that was done in the studio I used a snot light on the right hand side and a tripod. The settings for all the images are F-stop: 11, shutter speed: 0.6 and ISO: 100. If I do this again I will use both white and black backgrounds.
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

I first placed the background image on to photoshop.

Then I used quick selection tool to select the outline of the person. The magnetic lasso tool was used to cut out her hair as it blends into the background. Then I placed it on top of the over image and made it smaller.
AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
