Work Record 4

Work Record 4

Research

Uta Barth

Uta Barth explores light and exposure.

Plan for shoot

For my shoot I will focus on Barth's work taken from her home. I like the images of windows the most so I'll take photos from different windows in my house.

Best images

I think this image is the best as the main focus is the light but it also has to objects that obstruct the light. For example the light on the top of the lamp. The metal bed frame from my bed has small heavenly glow around it. This image makes you think about how light shapes the mood of room.

This image shows how light enters a room.  I like how the blinds and light have mixed making the image a bit blurry. I think the lap is fine in this image as a small contrast however I find the bits of green over my bed frame a bit distracting as it's a different colour. I'll crop it out on photoshop.

I moved down a bit in this image which has copied the image. The side two images on top of each other is similar too when films show the audience that a character is drunk or has a concussion.

The blue blind in this image of a window in my house shows to layers of how light is shown in my house. The light can also be seen coming thpouhgt the sides of the blind.

In this image you can't see the foreground yet the background is clearer. Although it needs cropping as it has to much negative space.

Images that require improvement

This image is too underexposed and you can't even see the blinds or the sections of the windows. Barth's work has a strong focus on light but this hasn't properly balanced the light and the subject making it pointless.

This image is a bit to dark. The effect may be better if the blind is open slightly or even if the room light is on.

Too much of the bed and bedside table are in the image which shuldn't be the a main focus.

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

I think the best images are from my room, the red one, as I like how the white blinds among the red standout compared to the blurry of the window. The images have the correct amount of object to stop  the image looking plain and empty. The images in the blue room are also among my favourites as the two shades of blue work well and is similar to Barth's use colour. This one has also been successful in it's use of movement. The over image in the blue room that reminds me of someone dizzied vision has given me a idea to do a similar thing only with the skeleton. Originally I decided to explore this photographer for a possible background to put the skeleton against but now I might has the skeleton effected by the light also.

AO2Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

This shoot was done in 5 different rooms in my house I've kept the F- stop at 20 the whole time. Throughout the shoot I kept changing the shutter speed to see what amount of light looks best. The first of the window ranges from F-stop: 4.5,shutter speed 0.6 and ISO:100 for the lightest images. Also F-stop: 4.5, shutter speed:1/400 and ISO:100. All images in the bath room with the blue background and my red bedhroom are both the same with F-shop: 20, shutter speed, 1 and ISO: 100. The last to images one in my conservatory and of my front door from the inside are also the same settings with F-stop: 20, shutter speed 4 and ISO: 100.

AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

I adjusted the curves to make to light more concentrated.

I then cropped the image to remove the negative space.

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

Progression: you must refer to what you will do next to improve on either the shoot you have done or how you will develop your project in the next shoot.

The next shoot is based on John Stezaker were I'll be mixing mixing the skeleton, a person and landscapes.
