Photographer Research

Marina Abramovic
I picked this photographer as I have a skeleton and could do something similar.

In the first the some is holding the skulls on her back. This is representative of death looming over use and getting harder to cary with age. She also blends into the background as both her clothes and the background are black.  The colour black is dark, negative and which sends out a mixed message as to whether or not the skeleton is a bad or good thing.

The woman in these images is very comfortable around the skeleton and also very serious with her expressions. To me the fact the person is fine with the skeleton yet the background and herself are negative means that she is fine with the death of others yet scared by the fact that she'll die.

The image her makes the skeleton (death) appear more in control compared to the first image. As it being side ways in the first one make the skeleton look weaker. Where as here the skeleton looks as if it's stetting on a throne showing he's in of higher power.

This image is much like the first only this women is looking more hopefully and the background goes from dark to mostly light. This represent her mood starting out anxious about death then starting to not fear it.

This has inspired me to make death a bit less scary by having people actor comfortably around the skeleton as well as happy as thats the opposite of the norm. My background will also be more natural.

This image was taken in the studio and like Abramovic's work includes a skeleton. It is however not completely the same as I wanted my work to have a happy and relaxed tone. This is seen in the use of a lighter background and the all people involved looking happy. Although I did think that it should be a little b it dark thats why I used photoshop to make the image darker by changing the exposure.

Uta Barth
This has been chosen as it would look good as a background.

This image ignores the rules of photography as it's blurry. This appeals to me as I like breaking the rules of photography.

Their is a silk curtain in this image only I didn't know this until I looked up Barth's work. I didn't know what it was before I just liked now relaxed it makes you feel when you look at it. It reminds me of when I have only just woken up on a very sunny day.

I find the image above of the window relaxing. I think this could be used in my own work as a background, something to offset the randomness of the skeleton and to make the viewer see it as normal.

The image above of a landscape looks like it has been taken in a moving car which reminds me of when I try to take a picture of somethinging outside in a moving car. Although it normally turns out blurrier then this. I like how Barth sees the good in an image most people would delete.

I focused on the light from windows as I thought it could make a good background for the skeleton to be among. I like how the exposure changes the meaning of the image which I haven't incorporated before.

This image from my window is a relaxed environment which is a perfect contrast for the skeleton. The colour red is also the same colour as blood which is a good double meaning. I do think this could work but I don't want to use this in the exam as I believe my over approach will be more effective.

Simon Bruntnell
I have chosen this to explore a glass that is skull shaped.

This image shows tone, shape and form something you don't think of when thinking about glass, an everyday object.

Colour and reflection are seen in this image. It just surprises my now much tone is in glass.

In this image the light is shining down on the object, which shows another dimension of the object. It reminds you how lighting effects shadows.

This image has an everyday objects thats made of glass to show how light and glass bright out the colour in an object. I think it's good that an everyday object has been used as it is more interesting then a glass bowl.

This has inspired me to experiment with glass and colour. I may also experiment with shadows but I will focus on the glass and the lighting.

I have used two different skulls a bigger decorative on designed to hold headphones and a mug, which is in the image above. I focused on this one as you can put things in it and be able to see it. The bigger skull is to thick to see the sweet rappers I used so I put lights in it instead and turned the studio lights off. I think my work links as the focus is on the glass and the tone, I just used my twist of incorporating more colour and including the skull theme.

John Stezaker
This has been chosen as I like the idea of mixing peoples faces with a skull.

The top image is half man and women both are looking sad yet the mans on the lefts hand is also in the shoot which changes the images feel. The women allow looks a bit angry but the mens upset as if he's broken up with someone. If the people were upset by each other then putting the two together could show they still care for each other. With one image showing both sides of their story.

The face has been covered with a landscape these landscapes are in colour unlike the portrait which is in black and white. The differnce in colour makes the landscape stand out so you question why the person face is covered. If the landscape was also black and white then it's statement won't be as strong. To me it shows you can't judge some one by they face, which is shown literally in this image as the face is visible, and that you should judge by their personality which is represented by the landscape.

This image has cut out the majority of the women and the mans nose up to his eye. It look to me like it's showing his line of sight and the woman isn't in the picture as she's not important.

The cliff sides in the landscape have been used to represent the couples faces. I find this image Orwellian as it reminds me of propaganda.

I like how Stezaker has ignored the rules of framing and changed people perception of whats acceptable in a good photo. His approach is simple yet effective. My twist on his work will include a skeleton.

Instead of mixing two peoples faces I mixed it with a skull to stick to my theme and to add a dark meaning. I also tried putting a landscape over the subjects face which I found was effective.

Hannah Hoch
I'm looking a Hock's work again as I think it will work with the topic of juxtaposition.

I find this image creepy due to the eyes. The left eye looks normal but the right eye makes the character look more sinister. Yet the big hand at the bottom makes the image seem goofy so you stop thinking about the creepy face.

In this image a mens head has been put on a woman's body holding a baby with high heels on. Dances or gymnasts are in the background with random text. I like how it makes no sense yet in it's own way could be challenging the role of men and women by putting the head of a man on a women.

This image has taken this woman best features and made them her worst be exaggerating the proportions.

The image above incorporates famous people including the Queen,Abrham Lincoln and Marilyn Monroe. This attracts the attention of the viewer as it's so odd to see a babies head on top of a Marilyn, a famous sex symbol, and with different eyes.

Her work mainly focuses on peoples faces by switching different fetches. It also incorporate random images. I tried to apply logic to Hoch's work then I realised your not meant to think about it. In my work I'll experiment with mixing people up.

In my work when cutting out different features I made sure that it looks like it has been cut out and sticked on like Hoch's work. I also used random mixed images together to create a new odd image.
