Work Record 2

Work Record

Simon Bruntnell

Bruntnell uses glass objects in his work and light.

Andre Kertesz

Keresz's work is in black and white and shows the shadows of the everyday.

Plan for shoot
I'm going to do a shoot using two different glass skulls. I'll put different objects in the skull and experiment with the light. I'll also experiment for shadows using a wooden hand.

Image bank

I hope to get images similar to these only with my glass skulls and wooden hand.

Best image

I put a red sweet rapper in this skull to make the skull mug look scarier as the rapper looks like blood.

I used 4 different colours (red, dark orange, light orange and yellow) to create the effect of fire. I may use photoshop to add smoke. I have the process of making this image ,adding each colour to the mug, which I could use to make a gif.

To create this image I turned all the lights out but left the blinds slightly open to let some light in. I placed one LED light inside the glass skull. I like the image but I do think I could make it better by having no light over then the LED light inside the skull.

This was achieved by putting a purple sweet rapper on top of the mug then using the touch on my phone to create the colour at the bottom. I realised by using both my touch and the touch on my phone that the phone torch is better as its not as strong so it makes a smoother colour.

I decided to put skittles in the mug as they are colourful and are a contrast to the skull.

I made this image messier as the over images are clean.

This a mix of both Simon Bruntnell and Andre Kertesz as it has shadows and glass in the image.

This was achieved by putting a yellow sweet rapper in front of the light. It is a good technique but I should of used a red rapper as it would represent blood which makes the skull look creepier.

This is a strong image as it has a bold message of the middle finger. inspired by Andre Kertesz's
This is a good example of juxtaposition as it has a real and fake hand in holding the over.

This is a clean image thats been inspired by Andre Kertesz's work on shadows.

Images that require improvements

The problem with this image is the hole in the styrofoam but this can be fixed by cropping the image.

This image isn't good as the styrofoam has a whole in it and the background isn't one colour. I don't like this image as I don't thing the idea of poring the rappers out as they aren't liquid.

The lighting in this image is too dark so you can't see the red, yellow and blue sweet rappers in the mug clearly. To improve this I would change the lighting by putting the soft box light on like the over image I did that are similar. Once the light is changed the sweet rappers inside will mug will look brighter and you should be seen able to see the colours orange and green as they are secondary colours. (red and yellow make orange, yellow and blue make green)

This image dosen't work as you can see the end of the wooden hand. so I improved it by zooming in, the improved image is part of my best images.

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

I think the best image is of the skull glass that uses different colours (red, yellow and orange) to looks like its on fire. I think it works as it a skull and fire are both go well as they are gothic but are different at the same time. The wooden hand making gestures are also among my favourites are they are simple yet have meaning. For example why does the wooden hand have its middle finger up at the view? How did someone offend it? Was it the viewer?

AO2Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

I used the same camera as usually, all images were taken in the studio. Two softs boxes were used at first with the skulls mug and sweet rappers the majority of these images settings are as follows F-stop: 18, shutter speed:1/6 and ISO: 100 . I then turned them off for the bigger glass skull so I could put lights in them. The settings are the same as before only with a shutter speed of 2. Then lights remanded off when using the sweet rappers and a touch to change the skulls colour. The settings were the same just with an shutter speed of 0.4.  Two lights one soft box the over snot were used for the images including sweets. Just the snot was used for the images with the hand. The sweets in the jar F-stop: 11, shutter speed: 1/125 and ISO: 100. Images of the wooden hand settings as follow F-stop: 25, shutter speed:1/125 and ISO:100.

AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

(note here there needs to be a clear focus on how the work can be developed further i.e. into the next shoot) ANALYSE YOUR IMAGES AND SHOW HOW THEY CAN BE IMPROVED, THROUGH E.G. PHOTOSHOP, FURTHER SHOOTS, PHYSICAL MANIPULATION ETC.

Frist I selected the background colour with the eyedropper tool.

Next using the quick selection tool to select the background. Then I used the paint brush to paint the colour I selected earlier to remove the shadow cause by my arm.

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

Progression: you must refer to what you will do next to improve on either the shoot you have done or how you will develop your project in the next shoot.

For my next shoot I will use the work of Shamekh Al-Bluwi as inspection. His work uses paper cut outs that are matched with the background to create a dress.
