Research Log

Marina Abramovic

I selected this image as it contained a skeleton and a living person, contrasting life with death, which supports my chosen theme of juxtaposition. This image is also morbid due to the lack of colour, and it is also odd as she blends into the background.

Rich McCor

The image of the iconic Big Ben as a wrist watch is simple yet effective. It is more closely linked with juxtaposition as it has taken an existing iconic monument and contrasted it with a paper drawing of a wrist watch to make a new image.

Shamekh Al-Bluwi

After seeing the work of photographer Rich McCor, who has used cut out drawings, I also found the work of Al-Bluwi who follows a similar theme. He uses this to create ideas for dresses. The image is partly landscape, again an example of juxtaposition.

Simon Bruntnell

I like to the use of light with glass in this photo and the contrast with reflection. However, it does not directly link with juxtaposition. I have a glass in the shape of a skull which I may experiment with.

Uta Barth

I like the way she ignores the rules of photography with regard to exposure, and makes the photo blurry. I can see myself using this technique in a background.

Hannah Hoch

This is an example of juxtaposition as she uses different images from different mediums to create one image. It is also an example of Dadaism. Dadaism removes all logic demonstrated in this image with  bird with a human face.

John Stezoker

This image has mixed portraiture and landscapes. It also ignores the rules of framing as you cannot see the subject's face. His other work focuses on portraits where he combines two people together to make one image.
